We are seeking a dedicated Hotel Accountant to join our client's renowned establishment located in the luxurious Mayfair district of London. The ideal candidate will manage financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the hotel's financial health and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Responsibilities

The Hotel Accountant is responsible for overseeing the hotel's financial operations to ensure financial health and compliance. This includes managing budgets, forecasting future financial needs, and preparing accurate financial reports. The role demands collaboration with various departments to streamline financial practices and support the hotel's overall success.

  • Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
  • Collaborate closely with the hotel's management team to develop and monitor the annual budget, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and reports, highlighting trends and advising on potential financial implications for decision-making.
  • Conduct weekly cash flow analysis to ensure adequate liquidity for operational needs, forecasting future cash requirements.
  • Coordinate with the human resources department to oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with tax laws.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial assets, regularly reviewing processes and systems for efficiency improvements.
  • Liaise with external auditors during annual audits, providing all necessary documentation and explanations for financial transactions.
  • Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Advise on financial analysis and cost-reduction opportunities, working closely with procurement and operations to optimize expenditures.
  • Participate in strategic planning meetings, offering financial insights that align with the hotel's objectives and growth strategies.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with department heads, providing financial guidance and support in departmental budgeting and expense management.

Requirements

To qualify for this hotel accountant position, candidates must possess a strong foundation in finance or accounting, backed by relevant certifications and experience in a similar role, preferably within the hospitality industry. An in-depth understanding of financial regulations and the ability to work collaboratively with different departments are crucial. The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year in the hospitality industry or a related field.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 50 Accounting) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and tax regulations applicable to the hospitality industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare detailed budgets, financial forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Experience with cash flow management and conducting financial audits.
  • Excellent analytical skills to interpret financial data and inform management decisions.
  • Proven track record of implementing financial controls and improving financial processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate financial information to non-financial managers.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with payroll processing and understanding of payroll-related legislation.
