A leading luxury hotel chain with a prestigious location in the upscale district of Manhattan, is searching for a highly skilled Hotel Financial Controller. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in finance, with specific experience in the luxury hotel industry. Responsibilities include overseeing the hotel's financial operations, conducting audits, and developing strategies to ensure the establishment's economic growth and stability. This position requires an individual who can efficiently collaborate with various departments to achieve financial objectives and maintain the brand's high standards.

 

Financial Controllers are responsible for financial reporting, budget management, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. They play a critical role in financial oversight and strategy development.

Responsibilities

Financial Controllers oversee financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting activities within a company. Responsibilities include preparing financial statements, managing budgets, implementing financial controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and collaborating with other departments to support financial decision-making. They play a crucial role in maintaining financial accuracy and contributing to overall business strategy.

 

  • Conduct thorough financial audits on a quarterly basis to ensure adherence to both internal and external financial policies and regulations.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive financial strategies aimed at maximizing the hotel's profitability, including revenue management and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Work closely with department heads, including the Food and Beverage Manager and the Accommodation Services Manager, to control costs and optimize departmental spending.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly financial reports and forecasts, providing critical financial insights and analysis to the executive team for decision-making.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process, collaborating with various departments to ensure realistic budget allocations that align with the hotel's strategic goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory financial requirements by staying updated on changes in financial regulations and laws affecting the hospitality industry.
  • Liaise with external auditors, financial institutions, and stakeholders to maintain transparency and trust in the hotel's financial management practices.
  • Supervise the payroll process, ensuring timely and accurate compensation for all employees, while also managing procurement and vendor contracts to secure the best terms for the hotel.
  • Implement and monitor effective financial control systems and policies to prevent inaccuracies in financial reporting and safeguard the hotel's assets.
  • Provide financial training and support to non-finance departments to foster a cost-conscious culture within the hotel.

This role requires a strategic thinker with a proactive approach to financial management, capable of navigating the complexities of the luxury hospitality sector while driving the financial success of the hotel.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background in finance or accounting, relevant certifications that validate their expertise, and a proven track record of financial management and strategy development in a hospitality setting.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in Finance or Hospitality Management is highly preferred.

Certification:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is required.
  • Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) is advantageous.
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation can also be beneficial.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial management role within the hospitality industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial strategies that have positively impacted hotel profitability and efficiency.
  • Proficient in financial software and systems relevant to the hospitality industry, such as Oracle Hospitality or SAP.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and produce actionable insights.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a track record of successful collaboration across departments.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and standards specific to the hospitality industry, with experience in audit and compliance.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial forecasting, and financial report writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The candidate must demonstrate not only technical proficiency in financial management but also a deep understanding of the luxury hospitality market, showcasing an ability to drive financial performance while maintaining the highest standards of service and operational excellence.
