Situated in the sophisticated SoHo neighborhood, surrounded by luxury boutiques, our client operates a high-end restaurant specializing in international cuisine. They are on the lookout for a Food Runner to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating efficient food service by aiding the culinary team in the kitchen, delivering food to guests' tables without delay, and playing a key role in ensuring overall guest satisfaction. This role is suited for someone with a passion for the hospitality industry and a desire to work in a dynamic, upscale setting.

Responsibilities

Food Runners assist in the restaurant by delivering food orders to customers' tables. Responsibilities include coordinating with the kitchen staff, ensuring the accuracy of orders, and providing excellent customer service. Food Runners play a crucial role in facilitating a smooth flow of service and contributing to a positive dining experience for guests.

The role requires a keen eye for detail, exceptional speed and efficiency, and a collaborative spirit to work closely with both the kitchen and service teams. Key responsibilities include:

  • Swiftly and accurately transporting dishes from the kitchen to the appropriate tables, ensuring orders are delivered as per the guests' requests.
  • Collaborating closely with the kitchen staff to understand the specifics of each dish, including ingredients and presentation standards, to accurately inform guests when needed.
  • Assisting the waitstaff in setting up tables before guests arrive and clearing them after guests depart, maintaining the restaurant's high standards of cleanliness and organization.
  • Conducting regular checks with the culinary and service teams to ensure all guest needs are anticipated and met promptly.
  • Participating in weekly team meetings with the kitchen and front-of-house staff to discuss menu changes, service improvements, and guest feedback.
  • Assisting in the monthly inventory checks of supplies and equipment used in the dining area, reporting any needs for repairs or replacements.
  • Being proactive in learning about the restaurant's menu, including seasonal changes and special promotions, to assist guests with inquiries and enhance their dining experience.
  • Working directly with the service manager to address any guest concerns or special requests, ensuring a swift and satisfactory resolution.
  • Engaging in ongoing training sessions led by the culinary team to stay informed about the latest food safety guidelines and presentation techniques.
  • Ensuring that all pathways are kept clear and safe for guests and staff members, adhering to the restaurant's safety protocols.

This position is crucial for maintaining the seamless operation of the restaurant and requires an individual who is not only quick on their feet but also dedicated to providing exceptional service to every guest.

Requirements

Previous experience as a food runner; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; teamwork and communication skills; attention to detail.

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Completion of a hospitality or culinary arts program is preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • Food Handler's Certificate or equivalent food safety certification.
    • CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the confidence to engage with guests in a courteous and professional manner.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively, ensuring smooth coordination between the kitchen and service teams.
    • Physical stamina and agility to stand, walk, and carry trays for extended periods in a busy restaurant environment.
    • Attention to detail in accurately delivering orders and maintaining presentation standards.
    • Team player mentality with a willingness to collaborate and support colleagues to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required in the hospitality industry.
    • Prior experience in a similar role within a fine dining establishment is advantageous but not mandatory.
