Responsibilities

  • Carefully curate and maintain an extensive wine selection, ensuring it aligns with the restaurant's culinary offerings and guest preferences.
  • Provide personalized wine recommendations to guests, taking into account their taste preferences, dietary restrictions, and budget.
  • Collaborate closely with the restaurant's chef to develop wine pairings that complement the menu and enhance the overall dining experience.
  • Conduct regular wine tastings and staff training sessions to educate team members on wine varieties, regions, and proper serving techniques.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with suppliers to replenish stock as needed, ensuring a diverse and high-quality wine selection is always available.
  • Assist in organizing special events and wine dinners, showcasing the restaurant's wine program and attracting new clientele.
  • Maintain a clean and organized wine cellar, adhering to safety and sanitation standards at all times.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and developments in oenology, continually expanding knowledge and expertise in the field.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a sommelier in a high-end restaurant or luxury hospitality environment, with a minimum of 3 years' experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of wines from around the world, including varietals, regions, and vintages, demonstrated through formal wine education or equivalent experience.
  • Certification from a recognized sommelier program, such as the Court of Master Sommeliers or the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently interact with guests and provide personalized wine recommendations.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail, particularly in managing wine inventory, cellar maintenance, and event coordination.
  • Collaborative mindset with a demonstrated ability to work closely with culinary teams to develop cohesive wine pairing menus.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the demands of the hospitality industry.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional service and creating memorable dining experiences for guests, coupled with a genuine enthusiasm for the world of wine.
